New Sound System PDF Print E-mail

Can you hear the difference?

From the time we moved into the Cathedral, many have found it difficult to hear the spoken word in our church. Solutions were sought without finding permanent solutions.  This winter we began looking at a new sound system with a different company.  Demo speakers were brought in and many people, including Bishop John, building committee members and many parishioners, were asked to evaluate the sound.  We tried several options and selected one that had the best clarity for the spoken word and the best fit for our space. These speakers are currently installed to the sides of the choir area. The speaker cases actually contain several speakers that are aligned to spread the sound throughout the whole church.

The project was presented to and approved by Pastoral and Finance Councils at a total cost of  $65,655.71.  This amount would have been more if it were not for the help of several parishioners who help with the labor and electrical work for the installation.  We are very grateful for their help. We were also able to save on shipping by purchasing the demo speakers.  This amount includes the dual steerable column on each side of the choir, sub woofers located in the choir loft, and a new processor.  The processor will have the ability to do specific programming for different priests, different sizes of Masses, and different musical groups.

As of May 19, 2013 the project is not complete.  We hope to receive the new processor this week and begin the detailed programming process.  This step will help us eliminate the issues that you may have noticed over the recent month while continuing to use our old processor.  Please be patient as we fine tune the sound and please inform Jodi Lix in the parish office if you feel that there are still some issues that need to be addressed once the programming is complete.

Additional note—The old processor will continue to be used in the Holy Family Social Center.  We hope that this improvement will also help with some sound issues we have experienced in that area.

This project was not part of our budget for the current fiscal year.  As such, we need your help to cover this expense.  Along with this flyer you will find an envelope to make a donation to the project.   We ask you to place the donation in the collection basket, drop it off at the parish office, or mail it to PO Box 670.  Please make sure your donation is marked “sound system”.  You can also make a donation online through our parish website with the following link: www.dodgecitycathedral.com and select the “online giving” button.

In the weeks ahead, our parish representative from Solutio, Inc., will be setting up the advertising for our website for the year.

Please consider participating in this effort since the revenue from the ads is what makes the website possible at no cost to the parish.

It’s a great way to get your name in front of the families in the parish.  Advertisements may be purchased for a business, family memorial, or you can sponsor an ad supporting Catholic Charities, Knights of Columbus, Vocations, etc.

Please give these ideas some thought. We need and appreciate your help!  If you are interested or just curious as to prices and want more information, please contact 620.325.6465 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
