Thought of the Week-Pensamiento de la Semana (2/19)
Lent is modeled in part on the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert prior to beginning public ministry. The penance, fasting, and almsgiving are meant to help lead the believer to ongoing conversion and a deeper faith in the Lord who redeemed us (USCCA 518).

“In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another." – 1 Jn 4: 10-11
“El amor no consiste en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que él nos amó a nosotros, y envió a su Hijo como víctima por nuestros pecados. Hermanos queridos, si Dios nos amó así, también nosotros debemos amarnos unos a otros.” 1 Jn 4:10-11
A Free Christmas Gift for You: 7 Pillars of Catholic Spirituality
Our Christmas Gift to You: Seven Pillars of Catholic Spirituality
At Easter we gave away 500 copies of Matthew Kelly's inspiring book Rediscover Catholicism. This Christmas, we would like give your family a free copy of his audio CD The Seven Pillars of Catholic Spirituality. In this presentation, Matthew Kelly discusses some of the most important elemenets of our faith: Confession, Contemplation, Mass, Scripture, Fasting, Spiritual Reading, and the Rosary. Each of these "pillars" draws us closer to God and helps us to become who God is calling us to be.
We invite you to pick up a free copy of this CD for your family after the 5pm Christmas Eve Mass. We will also have a small supply available in the parish office after Christmas. Due to the limited quantity, please share your copy with a friend or family member OR bring it back to the office so that we can share it with others.

Parish Book Program- Rediscover Catholicism
This past Easter the Cathedral gave away almost 500 copies of Matthew Kelly's inspiring book, Rediscover Catholicism. This book is a challenging reminder of what it means to be a Roman Catholic Christian, and encourages us to look at the beauty of our faith with new eyes. Many parishioners have shared positive feedback with us about this book, and have even passed it along to other friends and family members.
If you enjoyed this book, we encourage you share it with someone... perhaps even someone who has left the Church. You can also bring your copy to the office so that we can share this positive message with others. You can also form a small group study with this book, using the study guide that can be found on the Pastoral Ministry Documents page.
