Once a month, the 4th grade students get to do a very neat problem solving activity that involves a lot of group work, technology/textbooks, and, of course, their brains! This is the "Lockout Box". The lockout boxes have multiple locks on them and the students have to work as a group to figure out the combinations of the locks using a list of clues that they are given. The students are allowed to use textbooks and their Chromebooks to find the answers.
Problem solving is one of the biggest struggles students can have. It is important to teach problem solving strategies and skills in order for the students to be successful adults (slowly but surely!)
