Dear Parents,
It's school time again! I am very happy to have your child in my classroom. I believe that by all of us working together we can make this a very successful year.
It is my goal that your child’s second grade experience will be filled with personal growth as a thinker and a learner. I am looking forward to starting this adventure!
You are invited to email, call (during reasonable hours), text, or visit the school any time that you have a question concerning your child's progress. I will keep you informed by sending home a weekly newsletter along with updating our class website daily. My weekly newsletter will include short descriptions of our upcoming lesson plans, any special events for the week, an update on your child’s AR (accelerated reader) points total, their goal AR for the quarter, and any other notes.
The accompanying papers will briefly go over a few of the year long activities our class will be participating in. Along with those, we’ll also be communicating with a second grade class in Washington. We’ll be writing, and receiving, letters throughout the year in hopes of learning about each other’s school and community. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Please remember that second grade parents are responsible for coordinating and hosting our school carnival. Notes will be sent home listing important dates and asking for volunteers. Second graders will also be taking a big step in their spirituality. During the second semester, they will be completing their First Communion and Reconciliation. Keep an eye out for notes from the Cathedral.
I consider it a great privilege and responsibility to be your child's teacher this year, and look forward to meeting each of you!
Sincerely,
John Smithhisler
