This month the Science Olympiad team went to Hays and competed against other science teams.
8th grade received 2nd place.
7th grade recieved 3rd place.
6th grade recieved 3rd place.
They did a great job this year and should be getting their metals within a few weeks.

This month in science....
6th grade is studying energy waves and energy transformations
7th grade is stuyding the sun, moon phases, and the solar system
8th grade is studying stimulus and response system and plants

During November in science:
6th grade is focusing on the laws of motion and physical matter
7th grade is focusing on weathering, erosion & plate tectonics
8th grade is focusing on evolution & natural selection

This month in science....
6th grade is focusing on simple machines & elements
7th grade is focusing on the rock cycle & Earth systems
8th grade is focusing on Genetics & DNA

My students just finished up on learning about the Scientific Method and are excited to move into their new science topics.
8th Grade is studying Cellular Respiration
7th Grade is studying the Earth Systems
6th Grade is studying Matter & its properties
I will be testing them soon in order to form our two groups for the 2011 Science Olympiad that takes place in December.
We also welcomed our new class pet this month....our guinea pig named, Mango.

The first topic that my students are learning in science is the Scientific Method.  This topic is taught in all grades 6th-8th as a science requirement before any labs are done in class.  This course will also cover lab tools and lab safety.
