*Hope this message finds you all well and in the holiday spirit!

**Remember, students can get on www.Mobymax.com on an device that has access to the internet, especially over long weekends! Their information can be found in their agenda.

***I've noticed some "clique" type behaviors happening in our class, mainly amongst the boys and the games they play at recess.  Please remind your child about being humble and working to include others, and the importance of this moral.

****We have confession next Thursday.

*****Basketball games on Monday and Thursday here; both at 4:30.

******We will be AIMSWEB testing and taking Interim State Assessments over the next couple of weeks.

Merry Christmas,

Happy Advent :)

The students will be partaking in the countdown on our class Advent Calendar.  Ask them about what the advent wreath and candles stand for!

The students are blowing me away with their progress in multiplication facts! We've worked on the following factors: 2, 5, 9, 0 & 1.  We've learned some patterns to help identify if a number is a multiple of 2, 5, 1, 0, or 9

`*Multiples of 9 will have a sum of 9 when you add up each digit. Example: 243 is a multiple because 2+4+3=9! Neat, huh?
`*Multiples of 2 will be even and end in either:  0, 2, 4, 6, or 8!
`*Multiples of 5 will always end with a 0 or a 5.
`*Anything multiplied by 1 is the same number and anything multiplied by 0 is 0!

Check out our great group of 3rd graders below, & their advent bulletin board. <3 God bless.

God bless this mess ;P

Parent Letter 09/15/17

Hello parents and families of our fabulous 3rd graders,

Things have been pretty darn great here in the classroom these past few weeks.  The students are getting familiar with the procedures, they are working hard to learn the concepts being taught, and they are really impressing me with the way they handle themselves during group and movement learning activities, like; Think-Pair-Share, Sage & Scribe, and Quiz, Quiz, Trade.

Thank you for your support of signing your child’s agenda, for signing their reading homework, and for all of the other tasks you do to help your child succeed.  They are really proud in the morning when they have that responsibility taken care of!  I continue to look forward to a successful school year.  Read below to find out more!  Peace be with you.

Old Socks!

We need some old socks (clean ones ;) to use as dry erase board erasers.  We’re currently using Kleenexes, and although we are reusing them multiple times, it is still wasting them quickly. Please and thank you in advance for sending some old socks with your child to school!

Homework

The first week of homework has gone well!  Let me clear up a few questions about it here, and then if you have anymore, feel free to email or call.

·       Homework is always a “review” of what has been taught in class.

·       The “My Work” page on the back of the math homework is simply for extra work space, since the boxes are so small on the front.  Students should answer on the front, though, after working on the back.

·       Although homework is assigned each day, if a student needs to complete two or three days of work ahead of time, maybe for on a night when they have extracurricular activities, that is perfectly fine.  (For example:  Monday boxes are assigned on Monday.  Student has football practice on Tuesday, so student does both Monday and Tuesday boxes on Monday night.)

Water Bottles

Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle to school.  It must have a closeable lid and not leak.  Students are leaving the room frequently for drinks and it is disruptive.  Students should come with their water bottle full and will be able to refill it after lunch.

Food Drive

You can start bringing canned goods on Monday, Sept. 18th for the annual food drive.  Donating canned goods will allow your child to wear a Cougar or Catholic t-shirt and blue jeans on September 25th!

Sacred Heart has decided to raise funds to donate to Catholic Charities, which will assist with those affected by the recent hurricanes in the south.  If you feel the call to donate, please call the office to see how you can help!

Reading Packets:

Reading Packets (The stapled packets of paper behind the students’ Reading Tabs in their AVID Binders are for IN-CLASS work only.  We use these packets as a learning and modeling tool, not as homework.  Please feel free to look at your child’s Reading Packet to see what they are learning about, but please do not insist that they complete any of it at home, unless instructed otherwise in their agenda.

Spelling Words:

Students’ spelling words and vocabulary words in reading, this week, can be found in the Reading Packet.  We are still working on the Math vocabulary and Religion vocabulary, located behind the Spelling Tab, from last week.

When the HW(homework) says “Spelling” in the students’ agendas, it means for them to choose one of the spelling menu items to complete, which can be found behind their Spelling Tab in their binder. We are still using the AUGUST spelling menu for now.

Graded Papers:

Please look through your students graded papers with them.  Some of the papers may have a stamp or note that reads: “Redo” or “Please Correct” or “Please correct and return”.  In that case, students are to fix their mistakes and return said assignment to the teacher for re-grading.  On the other hand, if an assignment is not stamped or noted, yet the grade is not to your liking, have the students resubmit the corrected assignment, and half credit will be assigned.

J Learning to fix our mistakes can be just as powerful as getting it right the first time. J

Most sincerely,

J

Check out the students’ spelling/vocab list behind their Spelling Tab to see what we’re focusing on now!
